Rising Damp Ipswich assesses and treats damp in Eastern Heights, and the wall is metered before we quote.
Eastern Heights has interwar housing. The name says heights, but the 90 m model puts its centre at 46 m, no higher than Karalee or Tivoli, so height alone does not keep these walls dry. The damp here is the quiet kind. A house of this era may have a bitumen damp course, which was a real improvement on nothing at all and has a service life. Bitumen goes brittle, and a brittle course fails without anything visible happening outside.
Interwar brick, much of it double skin, with tiled roofs and generous eaves. Where a house of this kind has had no trouble for decades, an owner can reasonably assume it is sound. It may well be. What can have aged is the thin layer nobody has ever seen, sitting two courses above the ground.
The ridge drains well, so the ground water story is mild and the built environment story is not. Concrete driveways and paths poured hard against the wall are the first thing to check here, particularly where a carport was added in the seventies. Concrete wicks, and a slab that laps over the damp course carries water past it as effectively as a wet garden bed.

With the Bremer River 1.8 km from its centre, Eastern Heights points to the damp course and the concrete around the house, not to the river. So the first checks are the damp course and any concrete laid against the wall above it.
